About Us
History of McCann, Ribstein & McCarty, P.C.
When Carl Trygstad opened his law office above a store on Main Avenue in 1906, he intended to serve the growing community of Brookings. W. R. McCann joined Carl in 1939 after teaching at Brookings High School. Upon Carl's death in 1943, H. O. Lund joined the firm and remained there until his appointment as Circuit Judge in 1959.
The firm eventually found a new home across from the courthouse in 1961 and has remained at this location ever since. George Mickelson and Tom Martin both joined the firm in 1965. Mickelson left in 1983 to begin his gubernatorial campaign.
Rick Ribstein joined the firm in 1991 and became a partner in 1995. Don McCarty came to the firm in 1997, shortly after his graduation from Law School. Tim Hogan initially joined the firm in October of 1999. Over a hundred years later and after several name changes, McCann, Ribstein & McCarty, P.C. continues to serve the thriving community of Brookings.
